Getting Started
Howdy!
Welcome to my little piece of cyberspace. My name is Traci and I am known as The Frugal Work at Home Mom.
It all started after I had my son and I didn’t want to be away from him and have anyone else raise him. I didn’t want to miss anything. I started searching for work at home opportunities but I found more scams than anything legitimate.
After lots of trial and error, I got pretty good at spotting a scam. After a while, friends would ask me to look at something they found and wanted to know if it was a scam or not. So, I decided I wanted to share my knowledge with others to help them find legitimate work opportunities and avoid them getting scammed.
Other than finding ways to make money at home, I enjoy saving money and making my money stretch as far as I can. I have learned quite a bit about saving money and I want to share what I have learned as well.
I have a lot of resources and opportunities to share with you. I do research each one that I share to make sure it is legitimate. However, things do change quickly in the online world. If you notice that something that I have listed on my blog is not accurate, please send me an email and I will research it and update it with the current information.
Also, when I post companies that are hiring, they are hiring at the time that I post it. Some companies are always accepting applications while others close the application process once the position has been filled. I suggest that if there is a company you are interested in, save the link to their site and/or add it to your job application tracker (get it free in my freebie library). Check back in and see if they are hiring again.
Frugal Living
To me, being frugal is just stretching what I have, be it money, time, consumables, or more. I love to deal hunt, as well as coupon (although I haven’t had much time for that lately but plan to help you get started).
The Frugal Living section on my blog will give you excellent deals, tips, and ways to save money and maximize what you have.
Work at Home
Working from home is a growing trend. In today’s world, there are tons of work from home opportunities. The purpose of my blog is to help you not get scammed and help you find legitimate ways to make money. The opportunities I will share with you I have either tried myself or have done extensive research on.
There are a few different types of working from home.
Employee/W2
Employee jobs are just like most jobs in the economy. You get hired on and your employer takes out taxes and gives you a W2 at the end of the year. They give you a set schedule and you work when they need you to.
Independent Contractor
This type of position is a self-employed type of position. The company does not take out taxes and you are responsible for keeping track of your own tax deductions and payments. They will give you a 1099 form at the end of the year with the total amount you were paid for you to file your taxes.
The upside to this is that you can save your receipts for items and services that you use during the year and use them as a tax write-off.
You are subject to layoffs/no work at any given time. You are not an employee and the company does not have to use you if they do not have work for you at that time.
Side Income
You might already have a job but looking for a little extra money to make ends meet, pay things off, save for a vacation or just want some extra money.
Whatever your reason, there are a lot of ways to make money other than having a traditional job.
There are many apps and websites that offer money for different tasks to be done.
Some amazing ways to make some extra income up to a full-time income is to drive for companies like Uber and Lyft driving passengers from point A to B. Deliver food for companies like DoorDash or Postmates. Even grocery shopping for companies like InstaCart or Shipt.
There are so many ways to make a side income. I can’t wait to tell you about all the possibilities.
Start a Business
Becoming an entrepreneur is another way that many make money. It can be a long, hard road, but very lucrative and satisfying.
For me, this blog is my business and I hope to make money with it. I also started a Virtual Assistant business. I have always had the entrepreneurial spirit in me since I was in high school planning my clothing store and my daycare center (which I never did start but wanted to).
There are so many other ways for people to become entrepreneurs. Some ideas are joining a Direct Sales company, freelancing, photography, bookkeeping, drop shipping, building websites, graphic design, and so much more.
Depending on your type of work you might get a 1099 if you do work for someone else or if you do work for another company. You need to keep track of all your income and expenditures to be able to file your taxes accurately.
